TSMC of Taiwan and Sony Group Corporation of Japan have joint plans to build a chip factory. The plant will be built in Japan with the help of the Japanese government, with an investment of about ১ 6.15 billion. Reuters quoted Nikkei as saying on Friday.
The plant in the Kumamoto prefecture in southern Japan is expected to produce semiconductors for automobiles, camera image sensors and other products. Considering the global chip crisis, this factory will be brought into production by 2024.
Sony and TSMC have not commented on the matter. However, TSMC, one of Apple’s largest chip suppliers, the world’s largest contact chip maker, said last July that it planned to build a factory in Japan.
